ClaroRead Extras

ClaroRead for PC now includes more applications and utilities to enrich the available toolkit. We have still concentrated on ease of use, so many of the Extras are neatly tucked away. However, users have the peace of mind knowing that the feature is there should they be required for a particular task or assignment. Existing and future ClaroRead users can visit www.claroreadextras.com to obtain product updates, free downloads, add on products and support information or alternatively, visit our Downloads section to access a number of helpful programs to fix problems.

Building on the popularity of our Save to Audio feature in all versions of ClaroRead, we have now enhanced this to produce Save to Video. It is now possible to convert any text into a video with a high quality voice over synchronised with the text. The text colour settings can be edited and the video can be produced to suit a wide range of popular mobile devices with video screens including iPhone, iPod Touch and Nano, Nokia and Walkman phones and of course Media Player software. It is quick and easy to do, allowing users to take documents and web pages with them on the move.

Accessible PDF iconAccessible PDF

ClaroRead has always allowed PDF files to be spoken aloud, and also converted into Microsoft Word format with ClaroRead Plus edition. We wanted to give the user more options for PDF files to be spoken aloud, so we produced a standalone Accessible PDF reader, which is available as a free download for anyone. The Claro Accessible PDF Reader will convert accessible PDF Files into a web page style retaining the original format and layout or a simple text only view. It is possible to change any of the colour, font and spacing using the built in controls, and ClaroRead will speak back the text aloud.

Download the .OGG audio codec installer

Ogg Vorbis is a free, open-source audio media format, like MP3. It's a second-generation format, like AAC or WMA, so users get better compression for less size.

Our software gives the option of saving text as Ogg Vorbis (as opposed to wav, mp3, wma) but most machines will not play it back without installing some extra software called a codec.

To help, we've created this simple Ogg Codec installer will play .ogg Ogg Vorbis audio files in Windows Media Player just like MP3 and WMA files. Just download and run.

Get the free AMIS DAISY Reader and Save as DAISY Word 2007 add-in

DAISY Digital Talking Books combine synthesised speech, recorded speech and text in books that offer much more than plain text or audio CDs. A DAISY book player is required, and the leading free program is the AMIS DAISY reader, supported by the DAISY Consortium.

A Microsoft Word 2007 add-in 'Open XML to DAISY XML Translator' is also available. This allows Word 2007 documents to be converted straight into DAISY books by simply choosing 'Save As' from the Word 2007 file menu.

Tips: Saving as a DAISY with MP3 will use the system default voice, so change the voice in Speech in Control Panel. And up the output quality to 44kHz for a much better-sounding voice.

(Note that users must have permission from the voice vendor to redistribute DAISY books made with a particular voice, and the MP3 production uses the LAME encoder which may not be compliant with the local patent regime).
