Dictate into Mac with Parallels, Dragon and SpeakIn

boxshot
As an innovator of integrating speech technologies for Windows PC and Apple Mac, Claro Software has been able to achieve what we believe to be a world first. Through working with technology from our key Claro partner, US based company, Parallels, we have been able to enhance the speech recognition options for the Apple Mac.

The latest Claro development allows users to dictate into any native Apple Mac text application using the premier Windows only speech recognition dictation program "Dragon NaturallySpeaking". This is not yet a released retail product, and is only available as a full solution from dedicated Apple Solutions Partners who are also Dragon Partners.

Intel Macs

Many people have been watching the growth in popularity of Apple products. Every Mac uses a chip based on Intel Core technology, the next generation in processor design from the world's leading chip maker. One of the benefits of this is it is now possible to run Windows XP or Vista on an Apple Mac computer. Apple supports this officially through its BootCamp feature in OSX 10.5, but this only allows the option of running
Windows OR Mac OSX.

Parallels for Mac

A key solutions component in allowing Dragon to dictate into Mac applications is `Parallels for Mac'. With Parallels for Mac, you can run Windows XP or certain Vista versions side-by-side with Mac OS X on any Intel-powered Mac, without rebooting. With Parallels' award-winning virtualization technology, you can run Mac OS X and Windows at the same time. You can even drag-and-drop files between desktops. Visit www.parallels.com for more information.

So, it is certainly possible to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking on the Intel Mac for dictating into other Windows applications (like Microsoft Word 2007 or DragonPad) and we know plenty of people are using their Macs as dual operating system machines and running Dragon this way. However, this still doesn't allow you to get the dictation recognition accuracy that Dragon delivers, directly into a Mac application.

Claro SpeakIn

The Claro 'SpeakIn' development bridges Dragon NaturallySpeaking and whichever Apple Mac application is in focus. Running Dragon within the virtual Parallels software, `SpeakIn' directs all the dictated recognised text into whichever Apple Mac application is in focus.

SpeakIn' supports the Dictation Mode of Dragon, which limits the Dragon voice commands (as Apple Mac has its own built in Voice Command utility) and concentrates on the speech dictation Dragon's area of real strength and accuracy. Claro's flagship Mac product, ClaroRead for Mac '08, provides the key proofreading features for checking the dictation accuracy. It can read back the recognised text in a human voice this is the best way to identify any misrecognitions that Dragon hasn't quite been able to capture.

For this solution, you require Parallels for Mac loaded with Windows XP or Vista, Dragon, and the free add-in SpeakIn
