We are a team of 21 based in Preston, Lancashire, Northern England.
Alasdair did his PhD in Assistive Technology at the University of Manchester and joined Claro Software in the early days. He used to write code – including ClaroRead and the free open-source WebbIE programs for blind people – but now mainly manages Claro Software. He enjoys musical theatre and has appeared on stage many times playing jesters and princes, but he now mainly spends his time playing boardgames.
Michelle joined Claro in 2006 after obtaining her first-class degree in Computation at UMIST (now the University of Manchester). She has coded, tested and even shipped (in the early days!) the software we produce. Nowadays she is one of the company directors and codes Claro’s Mac products. Michelle enjoys spending time with her family & friends, going to TV & film conventions and occasionally taking on an obstacle course race!
Anne is the ops manager, she has worked for Claro over 10 years and started as a sales assistant. She refuses to grow old and has her City & Guild in photography, is an avid reader and is the company champ at jigsaws.
Chris joined the company in 2010 after obtaining a First Class Honours Degree in Information Technology and Computing with the Open University. As Technical Quality Manager, Chris ensures that all company products meet quality standards before they go to market. He makes sure that software is as good as our users expect.
In Chris’ spare time he takes ballroom and latin dance lessons, enjoys walking and has ambitions to build a model live steam locomotive.
Ged’s goal at Claro Software is to introduce as many people
as possible in different sectors to the assistive technology software that
Claro produce in order to help people with dyslexia read, write and study.
His passion is to help people and his previous career roles
reflect this, they include setting up workplace learning centres, being the
director of a homeless charity, spending eight years as an elected member of a
council and developing an apprenticeship business unit at a local college.
Ged believes in the power of education and how it can
transform lives and studied with the Open University gaining a First Class
honours Degree in Politics and social Policy.
In his spare time Ged likes the great outdoors, enjoys
running marathons in the UK and abroad and watches Liverpool FC.
Stuart is a chartered engineer,
scientist and product designer and has worked in medical devices, clinical
measurement, healthcare innovation and assistive technology. He has made lots
of things to aid people’s mobility, comfort, safety, and conversation,
including custom walking frames, complex clinical measurement software, special
switches for those with very limited mobility, keyboards that can be used with
feet, and even a phone app to help someone see upside down!
He is also committed to helping
people live with spinal cord injury, and once customised a wheelchair and
joined the team to take the chair’s quadriplegic user to the top of a mountain
(and back down again)!
In his spare time, he makes
beer, fosters hedgehogs, writes short stories, and composts things.
Mary enjoys talking to people and travelling which is good as this is what she does at Claro. She also likes to watch films (and occasionally star as an extra in them!), exercise and eat all kinds of food.
Jamie is an IT Technician. He makes sure our systems are running well and kept up to date as well as managing the phone system, Audio/Visual equipment and other IT Hardware/Software. He also provides customer support and carries out Software Testing/QA . His interests are gaming, technology and spending time with his children.
Mahinda finished his MEng in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at UMIST (now part of the University of Manchester, sadly) and promptly fell into a technical writing job. Over 20 years later, he’s still a technical writer, producing help, manuals, and training courses for Claro Software. Outside work, Mahinda’s interests include hockey, travel, and real ale – but usually not at the same time.
Fallon is a trained business administrator and hairdresser, and is now responsible for sales and admin at Claro. In her spare time she enjoys investigating the paranormal, the spiritual side of life and travelling. Fallon’s favourite all time thing is making memories with her daughter and loved ones.
Andrius joined Claro family as a Marketing Assistant in 2019 after completing a postgraduate degree with Distinction level at the University of Central Lancashire in “Science in International Tourism and Hospitality Management”. He is responsible for social media and Claro website. Andrius speaks three languages: English, Lithuanian and Russian. In his spare time, he goes to the gym, explores the world and plays football for a local Preston team – Sir Tom Finney FC.
Aaron is responsible for designing and developing the iOS solutions at Claro Software, including ClaroSpeak, ClaroPDF and Claro ScanPen. In his free time he enjoys travelling, watching Manchester United and drinking Bourbon.
UCLan graduate turned full-stack developer, Dan joined us in 2018 as a student and went full time in 2019. He maintains a lot of our code base including ClaroRead Chrome and anything server related (so if it’s down its probably his fault). He enjoys playing video games in his spare time and works on developing his own games with his friends from University.
Danesh is studying Computing at the University of Central Lancashire and working as an HTML/JS software developer at Claro Software. He has a strong passion for making software that is helpful for people. Danesh is a big sports fan, and as well as watching games he loves to compete in sports such as Football and Basketball. His favourite football team is Manchester United.
Jack is studying Software Engineering at the University of Central Lancashire and is currently working at Claro Software on placement. He is interested in web development and machine learning. His other major interests outside of Computing are Football and Physics.
Juan loves games and programming, so he makes games in his free time.
Nathan is currently completing his undergraduate degree in Computing at Edge Hill University, with a focus on games design and development. He enjoys playing guitar and cooking. He also likes to spend time fixing faulty items, from broken phones to cars, as well as developing his own software applications.
Tom enjoys programming and graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with a 1st in his Software Engineering degree. He also plays multiple instruments and loves to make music in his free time.
David is a recent graduate from Warwick University and joined Claro Software in 2019. He is interested in anything related to software and enjoys playing games.
Liam joined Claro in 2019 as a Windows software developer. It is hard to find something that doesn’t interest Liam, but if he had to choose it would be games, music or problem solving.
