Speak under mouse, keyboard echo and prediction doesn’t work in ClaroRead for Mac

Symptoms

  • The “Speak objects under mouse” option is selected but nothing gets read out under the mouse pointer.
  • Keyboard echo is not working.
  • When prediction is switched on, typing does not bring up the prediction window.

Solution for Mac OSX 10.9 onwards

This is because accessibility is not enabled for ClaroRead. To fix this, please see this support page from Apple.

Apple’s instructions in the above article asks you to go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy

Then check the box next to the application you’d like to grant access to (i.e. ClaroRead). You may have to click on the padlock in the bottom left first and enter your admin password:

Solution for Mac OSX 10.6 – 10.8

This is because you have not enabled access for assistive devices. To rectify this, select the Apple symbol in the top left corner of the screen and select System Preferences. Now select ‘Universal Access’ towards the bottom right:

Ensure the checkbox “Enable access for assistive devices” is checked.

Solution for Mac OSX 10.9

This is because you have not enabled accessibility access for ClaroRead in the Security & Privacy settings. To rectify this, select the Apple symbol in the top left corner of the screen and select System Preferences. Now select ‘Security & Privacy’ on the top row:

Ensure the checkbox next to ClaroRead is checked.
